Executive Committee

President – Deborah MacArthur

Deborah joined the Global Executive Committee in 2008 and was elected vice-president in Spring 2009. She was also elected the GWA School Board Chair in June 2009. As a retired Accenture Partner, Deborah moved to Morocco in 2005 and focuses her volunteer and philanthropic efforts on improving education. Deborah explains, "My vision for Global Education is that it continues to provide innovative, quality education programs for the middle class so that Moroccan families, business owners and multinationals can continue growing and flourishing in Morocco."

Vice President – Eric Crane

Eric joined the Global Education Executive Committee in 1999. Eric has been with Global Education and GWA since the beginning, first as a Board Member then as the GWA Director from 2007-2010. Eric first travelled to Morocco as a Fulbright Scholar in 1998. Eric’s doctoral dissertation was on how information technology interacts with and affects Moroccan society and culture. Eric and his family lived in Casablanca and Oujda for over 12 years working in the technology and education sectors. In 2010, Eric moved to Minneapolis, but maintains a strong interest and love for Morocco, its children, and programs to improve education. Eric shared, “My dream for Global Educaiton and GWA is that we will instill within our students and staff a deep love and genuine respect for both Moroccan and American cultures so that they will all become true ambassadors for both cultures regardless of where they are in the world.”

Officers / Adhering Members

– Larry Atles

Larry is a new member of the Global Education Executive Committee. Larry is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University and has lived and worked abroad in Iran, Dubai, Greece and Canada. Larry moved to Casablanca in January 2010 as the Manager of Construction for the L’OCP (The Office Cherifien des Phosphates) Slurry Pipeline and Downstream Distribution. Larry is working to integrate many American families to live and work in Morocco during the build-out of the pipeline and infrastructure. In addition Larry will be integrating and training many new Moroccan employees. Larry’s goal in joining Global Education was stated as “I want to help Morocco grow and mature. If I can help with American education efforts, then I want to see those programs grow even stronger here.”

– Meredith Allen Belghiti

Meredith is a new member of the Global Education Executive Committee. As a parent of GWA, Meredith has a unique perspective on the opportunities and needs at GWA. Raised in Atlanta, Meredith earned an MBA from Georgia State University and is a candidate for her Juris Doctor from Northwestern California University. Currently, she is the Executive Director with Cabinet Azzedine Kettani. Active in various Casablanca philanthropic associations, and fluent in French and Moroccan dialect, Meredith brings a multicultural, pluralistic mindset to the Board. Meredith’s hope for Global Education is “Global Education may further strengthen its role as a leader in promoting educational and cultural exchange in order to enable individuals to excel both in Morocco and in the global community. “

– Alex Horsley

Alex is a new member of the Global Education Executive Committee. Alex is a graduate of Oxford in French and German. He is an international education consultant whose clients include the Aga Khan Academies who are developing international schools in Africa and the Middle East. For 20 years, Alex was head of International Baccalaureate world schools in the United States and China. He is highly involved in school accreditation and professional development projects specializing in school start-up and dual-language education. Currently, Alex serves on the board of the Friends School of Atlanta. Alex has visited GWA several times as an accreditation consultant and leads GWA Board’s annual training. Alex will continue regular visits to GWA as part of our multilingual initiatives. Alex’s belief in Global Education can be summed up as “My goal is to see international, dual-language schools become an accepted part of all national educational systems.”

– Steven Wills

Steven joined the Global Education Executive Committee in 2009 and the GWA School Board in 2009. Steve is the owner/operator of Walsman and Associates, a Lotus Notes IBM business partner, here in Casablanca. A graduate of Syracuse University, Steven has lived and worked in Switzerland, France and Cairo. Fluent in French, Steven has lived in Morocco for 15 years focused on the technology sector. Steve explained , “My hope is to see GWA raise up the next generation of leaders in Morocco who will carry forward the dreams and aspirations of its people."
