History

Based in Casablanca, Morocco, Global Education has been at work bridging cultures and creating opportunities through education since 1994. Through innovative new projects and by partnering with businesses, associations and individuals who share our values, new opportunities have been provided to a generation of Moroccans and North Americans. Below is a summary of just some of our work and achievements:

Internet

Global Education helped to bring the Internet to Morocco by co-sponsoring the First Internet Days in Morocco conference and several subsequent Internet conferences. Our first President was a co-founder of the Moroccan Internet Society, which is a chapter of ISOC.

Semester at Sea

Global Education has been hosting the Semester at Sea visits to Morocco since 1995. Four annual scholarships were created in 1996 which to this date have enabled a total of thirteen Moroccan students to participate in the program. Four have spent the whole semester traveling around the world on the fall voyage while nine others have participated in the Interport scholarship program traveling between Casablanca and Rome, Athens or Istanbul. Both SHRH King Mohammed VI and HRH Prince Moulay Rachid (as well as many other notable world figures) have visited Semester at Sea ships and met with students.

George Washington Academy, Casablanca

Since its opening in 1998, George Washington Academy has grown to be the largest American school in Morocco. The student body counts 710 students from K3 (3 year-olds Kindergarten) to 12th Grade. We have over 30 nationalities on campus – roughly 60% Moroccan, 20% American and 20% others. GWA serves the metropolitan area of Casablanca, Morocco, by offering an innovative, affordable, American, preschool through high school education, built around a trilingual program.

Do You Speak Global?

As a leader in education in Morocco, George Washington Academy is organizing a series of forums called Do You Speak Global? discussing international education. The first forum was held on February 3, 2009. The topic of the first forum was "Are our children ready to live in the global village?" The Forum was opened by a short video featuring GWA's students explaining why they like GWA and giving their definition of globalization:

Disney

In partnership with Disney Worldwide Services, Inc., Global Education developed programs to find qualified Moroccan university students to work at Disney World as well as a job placement program for them when they returned to Morocco.

National Airport Authority (ONDA)

Global Education assisted the English department of the Mohammed VI International Civil Aviation Academy under a four-year co-operative agreement with the Office national des aéroports (ONDA) from 2001-05. We conducted Intensive English Language seminars, teacher training and instruction in General English and Technical English.
